Mangalore: ZP, TP Polls Garner Mixed Response

Mangalore, Dec 31: The Zilla and Taluk panchayat elections commenced here producing mixed response during the early hours on Friday December 31.
A total of 116 candidates are contesting the ZP polls and 374 candidates are contesting the TP polls comprising Mangalore, Beltangady, Bantwal, Sullia, and Puttur constituencies on Friday’s polling.
The voters at Uchila Bovi School (booth no 296) were disappointed due to the machine failure. The voting machine got corrupted when only four voters had cast their vote till 8.30 am. Apart from all these less number of people were seen places like Anandashrama high school, Someshwar, Stella Maris High School School, Kotekar.
At the voting center in Bhagavathi higher primary school Uchila Sankolige 7.01 % vote recorded till 9.00 am. At the booth number 252 of Kuthyar Padau high school school 10% vote were recieved till 9.00 am. At St Joseph Paneer school, in booth no 263 out of 1100 voters 150 had cast their voting and in booth no 264 out of 800 voters only 100 had voted till 9.00 am.
Normal speed of voting is reported from Neerumarga. Heavy queue was found in Kuthyaru Padua polling booth. Apart from this it was mixed response by the voter at various places. Low response for voting in the early hours of the day feared the possibility of low percentage of voting this time.
Around 12.00 pm the voting percentage in Dakshina Kannada has been recorded as 25% and in Udupi district it is 19%. Voting was boycotted at Kudlooru village in Beltangady taluk.
