Mangaluru, Feb 7: In most of the airports in India, it is the vehicles that have separate routes for entering the terminal and exiting. However, at Mangaluru airport, the vehicles, after offloading the passengers, have to take a U-turn to exit. This is not only disturbing the traffic movement here but also causing inconveniences to the ordinary passengers. However, this is not the only reason. The special treatment meted out to the VVIPs is also a prime cause of inconvenience to the aam admis here.
When there are multiple vehicles, passengers are compelled to get down some distance away and take their luggage to the entry point.
If separate roads are marked for entry and exit, this problem can be avoided. People cannot take their luggage in trolleys from the exit gate because VVIP vehicles and security vehicles are parked there. The gunmen and followers of these VVIPs will be present here. The passengers cannot take their trolleys out. They have to either wait till the VVIP vehicle leaves or physically carry the luggage.
The vehicles are forced to take U-turn after the passengers disembark citing security concerns. Barricades have been placed to stop the vehicles. A passenger, Anand Kumar, says this problem has to be addressed first. Another passenger says that it is wrong on the part of the airport authorities to have reserved the parking space to pick up VVIPs right on the road used by passengers. Further picking them up at the arrival gate is also wrong, he added, citing that most of the passengers will be carrying heavy luggage.
Responding to the concern, the airport officials say that development works have been undertaken at the airport and in future, the arrival gate will be parallel to the parking lot. After that is done, the vehicles can directly pick the passengers and the current problem will be addressed, they claim.
