Kundapur, Feb 7: Students of Venkataramana College here went in a procession duly wearing saffron shawls on Monday February 7. When the procession was moving towards the college premises, the principal stopped it in the college grounds.
The principal and Kundapur police sub-inspector, Sadashiv Gavaroji, who blocked further movement of the students, told them that those wearing saffron shawls cannot be allowed into the college. The student engaged in an argument with the principal. They told him that students wearing scarves and burqas also should not be allowed into the college premises. They insisted that if they see students wearing burqas or hIjabs coming to the college, they will enter the college with saffron shawls over their shoulders.

After the principal confirmed that he will not allow burqas and hijabs inside the college, the students attended the classes, duly removing their saffron shawls.
Meanwhile, the principal of government PU college here held discussion with Muslim girl students who came to the college wearing hijab. The principal conveyed the orders of the government to the hijab-donned students. The girl students urged on wearing hijab inside the classrooms. The principal took the agitating Muslim students to separate room. Arrangement is made for the Muslim girl students with hijabs to sit separately. Last week, the girl students sat outside the gate of the college and protested.
