Mangaluru Feb 5: Clarifying his stand on Hijab row, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that there is no scope for wearing Hijabs in educational institutions as long as the BJP government is in power in the state. "It’s the duty of everyone to obey the rules and regulations of the schools or colleges and it is wrong to bring religious matters. Students need education, those students who cannot study in the schools can find their ways. The government will take action against such things and there will be no scope for such issues. Students should learn to obey the rules and regulations of the schools and we will not give them a chance to transform schools into Taliban-like institutions," he stated.
He was giving clarification in reply to a query after inaugurating the district in charge minister's office on Saturday February 5.
“We will not allow cattle thefts also in the district. We have directed the police to take action and put the culprits behind the bars without hesitation or leniency," Nalin said.
District in charge minister Sunil Kumar said, ‘"Hijab issue is a planned conspiracy. They can wear Hijabs or Burqa up to the schools and college compounds. Thereafter, they have to be in college uniform as per the rules. Those who speak about personal freedom, we would like to know why they are not letting the women enter the mosques, and why they are denied entry by restricting their personal freedom? They deny entry for the women in the mosques and on the other hand they demand to change rules to allow entry of students wearing Hijabs into government schools.
“They should try to understand that Modi government gave freedom to Muslim women by scrapping triple talaq and to help them to join the mainstream. The statements made by SDPI, Khader or Siddaramaiah on this issue are totally irrelevant,” he said.
With reference to an alarming increase in cattle thefts, Sunil Kumar said, "We will not spare cattle thieves. A meeting has been conducted with the district administration and the police. We have directed the concerned to take action and increase patrolling during the night."
