Mangaluru, Feb 1: Covid cases in Dakshina Kannada district are on the decline but the rate of deaths is rising. With six deaths in the district on Monday January 31, the number of deaths all together has reached 1,757. Positivity rate stands at 5.67. There are 3,954 active cases in the district.
The third wave has claimed 56 lives so far, out of which 28 were from the city, three were from Puttur taluk, five from Bantwal, four from Beltangady, one from Sullia and 15 from other districts, the health department officials stated. One death among these occurred in the 16 to 20 age group, one in 21 to 30, eight in 41 to 50 group, eight in 51 to 60 group, 13 in 61 to 70 group, 6 in 71 to 80 age group, 16 in 81 to 90 age group and three aged 91 and above.16 among the deceased were women.

As many as 17 breathed their last within 24 hours of getting admitted into hospital, six within 48 hours, five within 72 hours, and 28 after 72 hours. Twenty-two succumbed to covid19 while 34 had other health problems in addition to Covid. Sixteen died in government hospitals and 40 in private hospitals.
Out of the 56 who died, 27 had obtained both the doses, two had got one dose of the vaccine while 27 were not vaccinated.
