Kolar, Jan 27: As per the instructions of higher authorities in the department of education, the headmistress of Balechangappa government higher primary school in Mulbagal town has been suspended from service for facilitating Muslim students to perform namaz in the school. Headmistress of the school, Umadevi, has been suspended by block education officer D Girijeshwari Devi.
After Hindu and right wing organizations staged a protest accusing the headmistress of allowing Muslim students to perform namaz, deputy director of public instruction (DDPI) and local officials had visited the school and collected information. The DDPI had submitted a detailed report to the deputy commissioner of the district.
The headmistress on her part had explained that the facility to perform namaz in a room of the school was provided with the intention of attracting more Muslim students to join the school and that there was no other motive behind this act. The officials, who acted after a protest was held by old students of the school and pro-Hindu organizations, have now suspended the headmistress.
