Moodbidri: 47-year-old Yakshagana artiste dies in car-bike collision

Moodbidri, Jan 20: In a tragic road accident which happened on Thursday January 20 morning at Gantalkatte within the municipal limits here, accomplished Yakshagana artiste lost his life.

The deceased is identified as Vaman Kumar (47), a Yakshagana artiste living near Venoor.

Kumar was riding a motorbike which collided with an Omni car at around 6.30 am when he was returning home after participating in the Yakshagana performance at night.

Vaman Kumar alias Vaman Devadiga, son of Annu Devadiga, resident of Golithyaru House, Venoor in Beltangady taluk, used to serve Hiriadka Mela. He was known to don lead roles in performances and also was skilled in portraying faminine roles. He used to take part in Badagu Thittu Yakshagana performances and also in Chikka Melas.

    Yes, sir. Sleep is not a luxury. Tiredness,fatigue and lack of proper sleep causes slowing down and coordination of reflex actions, errors in judgement . Those who have not slept should not operate any motor machines or perform any physical work(using a hammer, sharp instruments etc.) that could result in an accident leading to physical harm to self or others. Driving or riding a motor vehicle after not having slept properly is as dangerous as drunken driving. A minimum of 6 hrs of undisturbed sleep prior to such work is an absolute must. Jet-lag is an example of change of sleeping hours and its effects are well known. The circadian rhythm of the body must not be disturbed. Good regular sleep pattern of 8 hrs for an adult is a very important factor to good health particularly when fighting diseases.

    Maybe deprived of sleep due to late night show . Any art form should adjust to needs of changing times .. Full night yakshagana is a health hazard due to sleep deprivation ...Better to adjust timings Maybe until 1 AM Max. Start early..play small and specific "Prasanga" which evokes interest amongst public ..Keep it clean without double meaning ..Do not indulge and propagate superstition ..instead promote positivity and love,
