Jan 18: Covid cases zoom past 1,000-mark in Dakshina Kannada, over 800 in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 18: Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday, January 18, reported 1,058 new coronavirus cases while Udupi registered 801 cases.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,23,305 out of which 4,964 are currently active.

As many as 275 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,711.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,13,47,530 as fine in 93,721 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

A total of 801 new cases were reported on Tuesday. Udupi reported 533 cases, Kundapura 194, Karkala 67 and 7 were out of the district.

741 patients are in home isolation, 30 in designated Covid hospitals and 30 in Covid care centres.

The total active Covid cases has risen to 4,301.

 A total of 95 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday. Coronavirus has claimed 491 lives in the district so far.

A total of 53 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far.

    Schools have to be closed immediately, atleast for few days. Why to risk the kids health.

    Administration must be very strict, immediately stop all functions at religious places. Administration is worried about Mall, Restaurants , Club, swinging pools, and not but not least educational institutions. AND NOT RELIGIOUS GATHERING.

    Everything goes as normal - what do these number really mean? Only to media hawa i guess - no impact on people. Many dont even report so how can we believe?

    DC sir cases have crossed 1000 today. You have decided not to close schools to keep the education mafia happy . This is a shocking decision by an educated person like you. You need see both sides of the coin. You met the education lobby and took a silly decision. You should have involved the parents as well as to know the ground reality. In reality no testing is done in schools specially private. So how is it possible to decide 5 percent infections. Which department is checking this. Schools will never report any cases. If schools are closed then they have a problem to collect fees. It is not the children who have a problem. The reality is that a lot of children in schools are sick and they are asked to stay home and these children return back to spreading infection to others. Most children are asymptomatic but silently spreading COVID in their classes and homes. So your logic of 5 percent is senseless.The wisest thing to do now is to close schools temporarily till the COVID peak is over. Pls don't take one-sided decisions. We parents are in a better position to bring out the reality.
