Mangalore, Dec 11: In an incident that came to light in the early hours of the morning on Saturday December 11 at Bikarnakatte here, the stone platform erected around the peepal tree (Ashwatakatte) that is considered holy by the Hindus was distorted by a local person of a particular community.
Saturday being Shasthi, Hindu women of the locality who had been to the spot to circumvent the holy tree found that the steps to the platform were damaged. It has been alleged that one Wahab, who is a local resident and also the president of a local mosque was behind the act. Following this, the local Hindu leaders protested the act.
On information, the police hurried to the spot and took him into custody.
The local people who gathered near the spot alleged that Wahab was involved in such activities earlier too, like placing thorny bushes on the platform. Muslim brethren who gathered at the spot expressed that the case will be settled amicably without harming the unity and brotherhood existent between the communities.
