Mangalore, Dec 11: Days after the state Election Commission declared the calendar of events for the elections to zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat, the district administration has also announced the time table for the polls of 35 Zilla Panchayat and 129 taluk panchayat seats.
The date of nomination is on Monday December 13. Last day to submit nomination is on Monday December 20. Date of scrutinizing of the documents is on Tuesday December 21. Last day for withdrawal of candidature is on Thursday December 23. Date of election is on Friday December 31 from 7 am to 5 pm. Date of counting will be on Tuesday December 4 from 8 am.
DC Subodh Yadav said that if necessary, re-polling would be held on January 3 and added that there are a total of 9, 34,143 eligible electors in the Dakshina Kannada district, who can franchise their rights in the upcoming ZP and TP polls. Of them 4, 65, 138 are men and 4, 69, 005 are women.
There will be a total of 1027 polling booths in the city including 233 sensitive and 174 hypersensitive booths. Mangalore taluk, which has highest polling booths (299) compared to other four taluks of Dakshina Kannada, also has 111 sensitive and 70 hypersensitive polling booths, he informed.
EVMs
As per the decision of State Election Commission, electronic voting machines (EVM) will be used for polling in the entire district.
The district administration has decided to borrow 3747 Balloting Units from New Delhi and 810 Controlling Units from Bhubaneswar for this election as there is a shortage of EMVs in the district.
Code of Conduct
The DC said that the model code of conduct is already in force in the entire district including in Mangalore city from midnight of December 6.
He said hat concerned authorities; especially the police officers on election duty have already been directed to take necessary steps to ensure that there is no violation of the model code of conduct.
Cost
The state election commission has directed the election campaign expenditure as follows:
Candidates contesting for ZP seats are not supposed to cross the limit of Rs 1 lac while campaigning and it is Rs 50,000 for the candidates contesting for taluk panchayat election. The commission reserves the rights to take action against the violators.
