Bantwal, Dec 10: After two groups, which had not been connected with the college in any way, fought with each other within the college premises on Thursday December 9 evening, the annual day programmes of Vittal PU College were abruptly stopped, and students sent home.

The annual day programmes of the above college were scheduled to be spread over three days since Wednesday. On Thursday, various programmes had been organized since morning. At around 4 pm, some time before the day’s cultural programmes were to come to an end, two groups of youth, who had not been related to the college, entered into a heated exchange of words on frivolous issue. As the news spread, more youth rushed to the spot and were about to come to blows. Sensing that the situation might go out of control, the organizers cancelled the day’s programmes.

The policemen rushed to the spot, and dispersed the crowd. Proper police security has been provided for Friday’s programme. The fact that the youths chose college premises for other purposes has come as a disappointment for many.
