Mangalore: Retired Bank Officer Commits Suicide

Mangalore, Dec 10: Vittal Shetty (77), a retired officer of Syndicate Bank, committed suicide by jumping into River Shambhavi here on Thursday December 9. He was a resident of Sampige in Moodbidri. Shetty is survived by wife, five daughters, and a son.

Vittal Shetty had left home on Wednesday, telling his family members that he would be visiting Moodbidri. As he did not return till night, his son complained to the policemen. During inquiry, it came to light that he had travelled to Mulky. The family members, who came to Mulky in search of Shetty, were informed by a person residing near Shambhavi River bridge, that they had seen a man near the river, and during search, Shetty’s clothes were found on the river bank.

Divers from the Mulky unit of Home Guards, after prolonged search operations, found the body of Shetty from near Manampady village, some distance away from Mulky.  In the recent past, Shetty had developed mental imbalance, his family members revealed.
