Mumbai, Jan 7: The services of Tulu Kannadigas in preserving and nurturing the Janapada wealth of Karnataka, its art, culture and traditions outside the state, especially in Maharashtra for centuries are valuable.

Karnataka Janapada Parishad Maharashtra unit held a meeting to elect its office bearers at Kohinoor Square Issar office, Dadar west on January 5. President T Thimmegowda tabled the approval by the Karnataka state government to elect new office bearers.

Special achiever in life insurance sector, Tulu Kannadiga, honorary chief secretary of Bantara Sangha Mumbai, Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee Dr R K Shetty was elected president of the unit unopposed.

Other office bearers elected on the occasion were Dr Surendra Kumar Hegde (vice president), Ashok Pakkala (honorary chief secretary), Ganesh G Naik (honorary treasurer), Padmanabha Sasihitlu (joint secretary), Kusuma Poojary (joint treasurer), Srinivas P Safalya (executive president – cultural committee), Krishnaraj Shetty (joint president – cultural committee) and Anita U Shetty (president – Ladies wing).
