Udupi, Jan 5: Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao on Wednesday January 5, sensitized the public over cases of Covid spiking and inspected shops and malls in the city.
He also visited various commercial establishments and slapped fines on those who were not wearing masks in shops and malls at Manipal. Udupi City Municipal Council officers accompanied the DC.
“The number of people who are not wearing masks has increased in the district. Fines have been been imposed on the shop owners and the customers who were found violating the mask rule,” he said.
The DC directed the shop owners to compulsorily use masks and sanitizers.
Weekend curfew
“The weekend curfew will be strictly enforced in the district. As usual, the night curfew will be continued until further order, he said.
“The weekend curfew will be imposed in the district from Friday 8 pm to Monday 5 am. All the IT offices and industries are exempted from the curfew. Only home delivery is allowed during the weekend curfew from restaurants and hotels. Passengers traveling on bus, train and flights are allowed to travel by producing a valid travel ticket. Shops selling food, grocery, vegetables, and dairy products are allowed to operate even during weekend curfew. Night curfew will be continued as usual,” he said.
