Mangalore, Dec 3: Primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said that the move by schools to grade students instead of giving them marks is a positive development, which will lead to quality education.
Kageri was addressing presspersons at the meet held at the zilla panchayat here on Thursday December 2. It is also a positive sign that the government schools are striving a lot to specially train students to improve Kannada and English grammar, he noted.
Currently, about 75 lac students per day are availing benefits of mid-day meal scheme in the state and the salaries of the cooks and the assistant cooks have been raised to Rs 1,500 from the current Rs 600, he said.
Stressing that the department is emphasizing health among school-going children along with education, Kageri said that government-aided and non-aided schools will henceforth give importance to health. The setting up health clubs is a move towards the same and will be headed by a science teacher, doctor, and physical trainer, he added.
