Bangalore, Dec 2: On Wednesday December 1, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, B Nagaraj Shetty, and chairman of Karnataka Industrial and Infrastructure Development Board, Yogish Bhat, held a meeting with higher officials in the government, and asked them to prepare a project feasibility report on the ambitious ‘Mangala Corniche Project’, which envisages building of a ring road around Mangalore in five phases, bordering rivers circling the city, within six months. The project will be implemented by the above two entities.
Addressing a press conference thereafter, the two said that this 30-km long ring road will have plans for developing townships and other projects adjacent to it. They opined that this is a very important project, about which a thought process is going on since the last three years. Yogish Bhat noted that this project is in line with the ring road around Ahmedabad, and that the ring road with a width of 100 ft, will be laid by the side of Netravati and Gurpur Rivers. He noted that out of the 30 kms, only 10 km-stretch of the road will not pass by the side of rivers. “The road will begin from the seashore at Ullal, pass through Kuloor, Gurpur, Kannur, and then end at Ullal seashore. This road will connect national highways 17, 48 and 13, besides New Mangalore Port Trust and airport. It is expected to act as a boost to tourism industry in the area,” he explained.
A 25-acre aquamarine park and an 18-hole world-class golf course will come up adjacent to the ring road at a cost of Rs 250 crore. The project, which involves an outlay of about Rs 1,000 crore, will be taken up on private-public partnership basis and the city residents will be made partners in progress, they explained.
The two asserted that every care will be taken to ensure that real estate and land mafia does not play a role in land acquisition for the project. They added that the land acquisition will be conducted as per the town planning plan, and that the government has been requested to circulate draft rules in this direction through a notification.
