Karkala, Dec 2: A resident of Kukkundoor village in the taluk committed suicide by jumping into a well on Wednesday December 1. Reportedly, he was apprehensive about the court verdict in a criminal case registered against him, which was expected to be delivered on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Surendra Achary (42), residing near Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple in Kukkundoor.

In the past, Achary was a resident of Halengady village. During his stay there, his wife had died of burn injuries. Although Achary had claimed that she had committed self-immolation, his in-laws had filed a police complaint, blaming him for the death of their daughter. The court was to deliver the verdict in the case on Wednesday.

It is gathered that the verdict did not come out on Wednesday. A case was registered about this incident in the town police station here.
