Mangalore, Dec 2: The rains that had played truant since the last couple of the days, suddenly reappeared on Wednesday December 1 evening in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
Udupi and Manipal registered heavy rainfall since evening till late night. The city accounted for rains for about half an hour at around 5 pm. Dark clouds hovered around Sullia and Subrahmanya, where chilly weather continued. Puttur, Bantwal and Beltangady taluks enjoyed sunny weather with overcast skies in the evening.
The strange pattern of rains has given rise to apprehensions in the minds of organizers of various programmes in Udupi and the city. State PWD minister, C M Udasi, is set to visit Dakshina Kannada district today. In Udupi, felicitation programme for Pejawar Mutt swamiji will be held from December 9 to 12. On December 8, President of India is scheduled to visit Manipal.
The prediction of the meteorological department which is valid till Friday morning, says that possibly, a couple of places in the coast and northern hinterland, and a few places in southern hinterland, might receive light rains.
