Udupi: Various Development Projects Begin in Belapu Gram Panchayat

Udupi, Nov 26: The inaugural of various development projects to be undertaken at Belapu gram panchayat, near here, at a cost of Rs 2 crore, was held here on Thursday November 25.





The Suvarna Grama Soudha building that was built at a cost of Rs 35 lac, village huts–market facility built at a cost of Rs 15 lac, Ambedkar Bhavan built at a cost of Rs 10 lac, Belapu Seva Sahakari Bank building constructed at a cost of Rs 7 lac including open well, concreted roads, and vented dam were inaugurated here on Thursday.
Zilla panchayat president Gladys D’Almeida inaugurated the programme here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, former state minister Vasant V Salian said that Belapu village, which was known to have meager revenue has been developed fully and is known nationally.  “Both union and state funds including contributions by donors are well-utilized by Deviprasad Shetty, president of Belapu gram panchayat, to get national recognition”, he added.

Addressing media persons, Deviprasad Shetty said that plans are underway to celebrate a month-long ‘Utsav’ in January 2011.  The celebrations will include rural sports, co-operative movement, and health camp.  “Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, rural development minister Jagdish Shetty, philanthropist and social activist Dr G Shanker, NRI B R Shetty, and other dignitaries will attend the programme,” said Shetty.

Social activist Kaup Leeladar Shetty, Udupi Land Development Bank chairman Kishan Hegde, taluk panchayat member Arun Shetty Padoor, Nithyanand Shetty, taluk panchayat former member A K Suleiman, Udupi Nirmiti Kendra chief Arun, Belapu gram panchayat members Prakash Rao, Suresh Devadiga, Khalid Ahmed, Paigam Bano, Shobha B Bhat, Vimala Anchan, Deepashree Shetty, Anitha, and PDO Appu Sherigar were present on the occasion.
