Beltangady, Dec 15: There was friction between a local named Girish, and the police personnel at night at Kolakana Bayalu area in Shishila village in the taluk. The police have registered a case of obstruction from discharging duties while Girish said that the police forced their way into his house and beat him up. Girish has a certain physical deformity.
A person named Lokesh had called 112 to inform that two families in Shishila were fighting with each other. Beltangady traffic police visited the spot and during this visit, the said incident reportedly happened. The police said that when they reached there, Girish was raising a din with a saber in hand. They also alleged that he attacked the policemen and the policemen suffered nicks and cuts when forcibly taking away the weapon from his hand. A police constable, Shantakumar, registered this case in Dharmasthala station.
Girish in his complaint said that in spite of being differently abled, he was attacked by the police personnel. He has got admitted into the government hospital here. The police officials visited him in the hospital while his wife met the district superintendent of police who is touring the taluk, and sought justice. Beltangady taluk committee of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and Nalike Samaja Seva Sangha have condemned the attack on Girish.
