Panaji: Congress alleges fake voters enrolling in Quepem voter list

Panaji, Dec 6: Block Congress of Quepem alleged that around 2000 new voters have fraudulently applied for voter id cards. It submitted a memorandum in this regard to Quepem Mamlatdar and assistant returning officer Pratap Gaonkar.

Speaking on the issue, Alton D’Costa, Congress worker and aspirant for the ticket said that around 1000 migrant workers have applied for enrolment without cancelling their voter ids in their native places.

Around 2500 new applications were received by the office of Quepem Mamlatdar during the enrolment drive which was held from November 1 to 30.

D’Costa said that if the bogus names are not deleted within 15 days, Congress will hold a protest on the streets.

Giving clarification assistant returning officer Gaonkar said that he will hold a hearing from Monday, December 6 in this regard personally and reject those applications who do not have valid ID proofs. Final electoral roll will be published on January 5, 2022.
