Mangalore, Nov 17: Muslims gathered in Idgah Maidan on Light House Hill in city and celebrated Eid-ul-Azha (Bakri-Eid) on Wednesday November 17 with gaiety and in a spirit of loyalty. Thousands of people from all over the city and outskirts from all walks of life, were seen gathered at the venueearly morning for namaaz.
The main purpose of Bakri-Eid is reiteration of devotion to the divine rule, Muslim scholars say. Since the festival is a commemoration of Prophet Abraham's unflinching faith and devotion to Allah's commandments, Muslims must try to show the same spirit when they celebrate Bakri-Eid.
Immediately after the namaaz, people were seen exchanging the festival greetings, ‘Eid Mubarak’, by embracing one another and shaking hands. Muslim brethren visit each other's homes on the day, to exchange pleasantries, to show their mutual affection and share happiness.
