Bantwal, Nov 24: On the basis of complaint made by Dr Rajendra K V, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, a case is registered in Punjalkatte police station against Jagadish Karanth, regional secretary of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV). The complaint was made on November 23.
Karanth had addressed a gathering at Karinja car street in Kavalamudoor village on November 21. Hindu Jagarana Vedike Bantwal taluk had convened this mega awareness event titled 'Rudragiriya Ranakahale'. Directing his address at the deputy commissioner of the district, Dr K V Rajemdra, Karanth allegedly had said that a deadline to stop quarrying being undertaken around Karinjeshwara temple in Bantwal taluk had been set for December 21 this year.
"If the quarrying is not stopped by then, thousands of people will barge into the office of the deputy commissioner, and hold his collar. He should stop the quarrying if he has the capcity by then," he reportedly said, speaking in the singular indecently and showing disrespect to the post of the deputy commissioner. He also incited people in order to threaten the officer and encouraged them to indulge in crime.
As Karanth instigated thousands of the people to indulge in criminal activities, showed criminal mindset and threatened him, and as he called upon people to lay siege to the office of the deputy commissioner on December 21 and catch hold of the deputy commissioner by his collar, thus creating a sense of fear in the public servant, and inspired people to inflict damage to the officer through attack, Karanth has been booked under sections 153, 117, 504, 506 and 189 of the Indian Penal Code.
