Mangaluru, Nov 16: Moral policing raised its ugly head again in Surathkal here. A student who was moving in a motorbike along with a girl belonging to a religion other than his own, was at the receiving end of this crime.
A gang of youngsters who followed the student, thrashed the youth. The girl was warned against moving around with boys from other faiths. It is said that the youth was taking the girl along as she had vacated her rented apartment and her luggage was to be shifted to the new place when he was targetted.
The incident happened within the limits of Surathkal police station.
Within minutes of the assault the gang members were held. In a swift operation, the police succeeded in taking into custody Prahlad, Prashanth, Guruprasad, Prathish, Bharath, and Sukhesh. It is learnt that city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, visited the spot to undertake inspection and guide the officials.
