Bengaluru, Nov 14: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee paid homage to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 132nd birthday and launched the party’s membership enrolment campaign throughout the State on Sunday.
AICC General Secretary and State party in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar, Congress opposition leader in the State Assembly Siddaramaiah, Opposition leader in the Council S R Patil, former Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily, former Union Minister K H Muniyappa, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, KPCC Working Presidents Saleem Ahmad and Ishwar Khandre, Youth Congress national president B V Srinivas and other party leaders garlanded the portrait of Nehru at the party office in the morning.
The State Unit of Congress party also observed Childerens’ Day at the Bangalore Palace Grounds to mark Nehru’s birthday.
Later, Surjewala and other State Congress leaders launched the membership enrolment campaign as a preparation for the forthcoming Congress Working Committee elections.
Former KPCC President Allum Veerabhadrappa, former ministers K J George, Motamma, Rani Satish, Dhruvanarayan, M B Patil, Roopa Shashidhar, Mallajamma and State Mahila Congress President Pushpa Amarnath and former Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar were also present.
