Mangaluru, Nov 13: The 11th Annual Convocation of Nitte Deemed to Be University was held on Saturday November 13 at KSHEMA Auditorium, Deralakatte. Chancellor of the university, N Vinaya Hegde presided over the ceremony, which was conducted in blended mode. Padmashree Prof (Dr) Balram Bhargava, secretary to the department of Health Research, Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and director general of Indian Council of Medical Research was the chief guest and he addressed the gathering via virtual mode.
Degrees were awarded in nine faculties including Medicine, Dental, Pharmaceutical Science, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biological Sciences, Humanities and Architecture.
In his address, the chief guest Dr Balram Bhargava said that during the last 75 years of independence, India has made outstanding achievement in nuclear technology and space research. “There was a time when there was severe food shortage. People were asked to skip meals and we had to depend on other nations for food. Now we are surplus in food and we have to salute the visionaries of the Green Revolution, White Revolution and Blue Revolution. Today we are also doing very well in the health sector. One out of six doctors is an Indian and our doctors are considered to be the best in the world. So our next goal for India should be to become the ‘go to’ destination for health and education for the entire world. India should become the hub of education, health care and innovation,” Dr Bhargava said.
The pro chancellor Prof (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty advised the graduating students to be grateful to their parents and teachers on this day. Chancellor N Vinaya Hegde urged the students to become good citizens and maintain good ethics in their lives.
The programme began with a rendition of the ‘Karnataka Nada Geethe’, the state song of Karnataka and concluded with the recital of the national anthem. Vice chancellor Prof (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary delivered the welcome address. Prof (Dr) Prasad B Shetty, Controller of Examinations, was the mace bearer and led the ceremonial procession.
Vishal Hegde, pro-chancello r(Administration), Rajendra M, director, finance & planning, Prof Dr M S Moodithaya, pro vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Alka Kulkarni, registrar and All Colleges Principals were present.
