Daiji Dubai Writers Forum Felicitate Multi-lingual Litterateur Catherine Rodrigues

Dubai, Nov 9: Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in Dubai had the opportunity of meeting noted Konkani writer Catherine Rodrigues as she was felicitated during a literary session at Shezan Restaurant recently.
The convener of the forum, Stan Ageira extended a warm welcome to the writer and the gathering. In his note, Stan pointed out the spark in Catherine’s literature and her profound expression. Walter Nandalike introduced Catherine by providing a glimpse of her multifaceted personality.
In her address to the gathering, Catherine Rodrigues gave an account of her journey as a writer. Catherine, one among eight brothers and four sisters, was born to late John and late Magdeline from Katpady. Masters in sociology, she runs Preeti tutorials in Katapady. Multi-talented Catherine’s literary work is beyond Konkani as she has also written 43 Tulu stage plays and five Kannada-Tulu stage plays.
She has written 20 Konkani dramas and 83 programmes have been aired on All India Radio Mangalore, which include short stories, poems, interviews etc. In Konkani literature she would be always known for her valuable contribution to genres of novels and short stories based on the social theme. Most of her work represents the lifestyle and traditions of coastal Karnataka.
The members actively participated in lively discussions where Catherine gave her inputs for the queries. Dayan D’Souza, the founder member of Daiji Dubai presided over the session. In his speech, Dayan highlighted her simplicity as a human being and her depth of knowledge as a writer. Nanu Marol compered the programme with witty annotations and Robert Fernandes concluded with a touching vote of thanks.
