Mangalore: Evening Rains with Lightning Inflict Damages

Mangalore, Nov 2: While the entire coastal belt of Karnataka was enveloped in dark clouds on Monday November 1 evening, only a few places received heavy rains coupled with lightning. Karkala received good rains with lightning in the afternoon, while places like Shirva in Udupi district received normal rains in the evening.

Heavy rains were also reported from Subrahmanya. Sullia, Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba and a few places in Beltangady taluk. The city, Mulky, Kateel and several other places experienced light showers.

Five persons, all family members of Puttumonu alias Ahmed Kunhi,  living near Govindoor school within Kaliya panchayat in Beltangady taluk, were injured after lightning struck their home at around 6 pm. One of the family members, Sauda (18) was severely injured and hence admitted into a hospital. After the branch of a tree fell on a chicken centre run by Sebastian in Kadaba, the building and other assets suffered damages. Power supply was crippled because of technical fault that developed in the 110 kv power line that extends from Kemar to Manipal and Hiriyadka in Udupi district.
