Rome, Oct 25 (IANS): Paulo Dybala's late penalty cancelled out Edin Dzeko's opener as Juventus rescued a 1-1 draw in the highly-anticipated Derby d'Italia against Inter Milan at the San Siro here.
Juve hitman Alvaro Morata returned to action, with Dybala dropping to the bench. Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal was absent, so Hakan Calhanoglu stepped in on Sunday evening.
The home side broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Calhanoglu's first-time strike outside the box hit the woodwork, but Dzeko was alert to tap in the rebound.
Both sides created a couple of chances and the Bianconeri won a spot-kick in the 88th minute, as Denzel Dumfries kicked Alex Sandro on the edge of the box. The referee awarded Juve a penalty after a VAR review, and substitute Dybala kept his cool to convert it. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi saw red for his reaction to the decision.
Inter now sit third with 18 points, seven points behind joint leaders Napoli and AC Milan, while Juve are sixth with 15 points, Xinhua reports. In another eye-catching fixture, Napoli saw their season-long 100 per cent winning streak come to an end after a goalless draw with Roma, whose coach Jose Mourinho was also sent off for protesting.
Also in Serie A on Sunday, Giovanni Simeone scored four goals to help Hellas Verona humiliate Lazio 4-1, Fiorentina dominated Cagliari 3-0, and Atalanta drew 1-1 with Udinese.
