Udupi, Oct 21: "Sacrifices of the police personnel during their duty in maintaining peace of society and serving the country are always memorable," said the deputy commissioner (DC) Kurma Rao.
He was speaking at the police Martyrs’ day, observed by the district police department on Thursday October 21 at Chandu Maidan here.
The DC paid floral tribute to the martyrs' monument at Chandu maidan. He said, “Police serve in difficult times without any fear. They will tackle any emergency situation, natural calamity, or any adverse condition. Police are the reason behind the public leading life without fear and peace in society. In Udupi district, the police department is working well and the district administration is providing them all necessary assistance."
District superintendent of police (SP) N Vishnuvardhan, recalling the days of IPS training, “During IPS training, the mentor taught that police should serve the society first and secondly, he should go to protect his colleagues. Finally, he should think about his life. Police are always performing their duty as taught by the academy."
SP Vishnuvardhan commemorated the 377 martyred police officers including 16 Karnataka police officers, who had served between September 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021. Police paid their respect to martyred police with a gun salute and observed two minutes of silence prayer.
RSI probationer Puneeth Kumar led the parade. B Manamohan, sub inspector, coast guard police compered the programme.
Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu and assistant superintendent of police Kumarachandra were present.
