Explosive on Plane Linked to Al Qaeda: Dubai Cops

Dubai, Oct 30 (IANS/WAM): A probe into the suspicious package found onboard a US-bound cargo flight here indicates the involvement of terrorist organisations like Al Qaeda, the police said Saturday.

The package found Friday onboard a Federal Express cargo plane coming from Yemen contained a computer printer with explosives loaded in its toner cartridge. The explosives were "professionally" loaded and connected via an electric circuit to a mobile phone chip hidden inside the printer, the police said in a statement.

"The plot style carries features similar to previous attacks carried out by terrorist organisations like Al Qaeda," it said.

"Swift action has enabled Dubai Police to foil a potential act of terror in the place the package was bound to," it added.

A similar package was also found in a plane at a British airport containing a toner cartridge and white powder in it as well as wires and a circuit board.

US President Barack Obama confirmed that both packages were bound for the US, "specifically two places of Jewish worship in Chicago" and described them as "a credible threat" against the US.
