Bengaluru, Oct 19: The State Government will establish an Industrial Township in Chitradurga district, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai promised on Tuesday.
Speaking after receiving the Basavabhushana Award from the Murugha Mutt during the Sharana Samksruti Utsava 2021 held in Chitradurga, the Chief Minister said the State Government will include Chitradurga district in the Mumbai-Chennai industrial corridor.
He said about 1000 to 2000 acres of land was necessary for establishing an industrial township that will create facilities for setting up industrial enterprises and other necessary infrastructure requirements.
“Treating all human beings equally as humans and being compassionate towards animals is the essence of Sharana Culture. The life of Sharanas or Veerashaiva faithful and the followers of Basavanna rests on the precept of work is worship,’’ he said pointing out that Sharanas respect and treat all equally with compassion and empathy.
The Chief Minister said the very fact that everybody recognises the importance of Basavanna’s teachings and the belief that he is relevant even now indicates that the inequalities, gender discrimination and other inequities that were rampant in the 12th century exist even now.
The ideal society that Basavanna envisaged has not materialised and Murugha devotees and sages are trying to preach and follow Basavanna’s teachings. The task can be achieved when everybody follows the teachings, he said.
Bommai said he is determined to build an egalitarian Karnataka and will do his best to work for the welfare and benefit of all sections of society.
The Chief Minister said his intention of celebrating the birthday of Dr Sri Shivamurugha Swamiji as a ``day of equality’’ and promised to make an announcement after consulting all concerned.
Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was also conferred the Sharanashri award. A book on the life and work of Dr Sri Shivamurugha Swamiji was released on the occasion.
