Malabar Gold & Diamonds showcases India’s art, craft heritage at World Expo 2020 in Dubai

Media Release

Dubai, Oct 9: Malabar Gold & Diamonds garnered attention at the World Expo 2020 in Dubai by showcasing the soulful craft and skilled artistry of Indian jewellery, and its diverse cultural heritage through its exhibits. Indian Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal, who inaugurated the India pavilion, visited the Malabar Gold & Diamonds stall and appreciated the brand’s trusted presence across the globe, and its representation of traditional artistry and Indian handcrafted jewellery on an international level.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds chairman MP Ahammed stressed the company’s focus on the initiative ‘Make in India, Market to the World’ during his discussion with the Union minister. By promoting Indian made jewellery at a global platform, Malabar Gold and Diamonds aims to boost exports and create employment opportunities in the country in various fields including jewellery manufacturing, sale, supply chain, and IT.

“The Dubai Expo 2020 has become the world’s centre of attraction for culture, talent and creativity. We are proud to represent India at an event where the world comes together to showcase the best of its art, culture, trade & technological advancements,” he said. Inspired by the cultural diversity of the nation, Malabar Gold and Diamonds makes its mark by offering versatility in catering to region-specific jewellery needs across the globe.

MP Ahammed had welcomed the Indian government’s decision to implement mandatory hallmarking for gold artefacts earlier this year. For the past 20 years, Malabar Gold and Diamonds has provided transparency and quality to its customers by selling only BIS hallmarked gold. Mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery and the HUID has proved to be a major step towards implementing gold purity standardization, making jewellery retail trade more transparent and organized and also a decisive step towards curbing gold smuggling in the country. It has furthered trust and credibility in the industry, he said, congratulating the government on the landmark decision.

In the last 28 years, Malabar Gold and Diamonds has transformed into a global player across the verticals of gold and diamond jewellery retail, manufacturing and multi-retail business. Following the brand’s international expansion plans, the company’s retail network is expected to triple to over 750 outlets by 2025 from 260 showrooms and generate large employment opportunities.

Undoubtedly, Malabar Gold and Diamonds’ presence at the Expo 2020 will showcase the nation’s wealth of cultural diversity and contribute to the efforts of the Indian government to strengthen its economy.
