Udupi: Mega Blood Donation Camp Organized at St Mary’s College, Shirva

Udupi, Oct 23: St Mary’s College, Shirva, Lions Club, Shirva-Manchakal, Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi district and Blood Bank, Fr Muller Hospital, Mangalore jointly organized a mega blood donation camp at St Mary’s College auditorium here on Saturday October 23.
Fr Stany Tauro, correspondent, St Mary’s Institutions, Shirva presided and Dr Prabhakar Shetty, president, Youth Red Cross, Udupi inaugurated the camp.
Dr Sharath K Rao, secretary, Red Cross Society, Ln Mario Mathias, president, Lions Club, Shirva-Manchakal, MJF Ln Lawrence D’Souza, zone chairman, Dr J C Miranda, principal, St Mary’s College, Shirva and major Pascal Walter D’Sa, director, Youth Red Cross Cell were the dignitaries present on the dias.
Speaking on the occasion Prabhakar Shetty lauded the discipline of children at St Mary’s school and added that he admitted his son to the same school impressed by the conduct of students there. He said that donating blood is the greatest service to the society and elders should encourage the students to donate their blood.
Dr Sharath briefed on the benefits of blood donation and explained about blood transfusion. He also enlightened the gathering on how the donated blood can be used and the detailed information on the blood groups. Fr Stany Tauro felicitated each one who donated their blood on the occasion and said that more such camps should be conducted.
Lions Club president Mario Mathias acknowledged each and everyone who strived to make the camp a success. Principal J C Miranda welcomed the gathering. Pascal Walter D’Sa delivered the introductory remarks and Dr Padmanab Bhat proposed the vote of thanks. Totally, 90 units of blood was collected from the camp.
