Kannada Starlet Pooja Gandhi to Act in Tulu movie ‘Beere Devupoonje’

Mangalore, Oct 22: Pooja Gandhi, Kannada actress of Mungaru Male fame will act in a Tulu movie for the first time. She is in city to attend the ‘Mahurtam’ of the ‘Beere Devupoonje’ a historical movie on a folk theme at Kanteri Dhoomavathi temple, Panambur on Friday October 22.
Kannada senior actress Umashree will play the role of mother of Devupoonje and Leelavathi has a special role to play in the movie, producer Dhanraj informed press persons here on Thursday October 21.
Pooja Gandhi will play the role of Raja Nartaki which has both negative and positive shades. She said, "It is a great challenge for me as it is a new experience in the Tulu industry. I am confident that I will succeed here too as I have in the Kannada industry."
Dhanraj who produced the award winning Koti-Chennayya will produce and direct the new film. The story is about Devupoonje, a Bunt folk hero, who lived about 400 years ago.
The film has five songs written by Amruth Someshwar. While, the screenplay is by S Madhav, music and cinematography is by Manikanth Kadri and Suresh Babu, respectively.
The cast includes R Siddarth, Manohar Prasad of Udayavani, Kadri Navneeth Shetty, Dr Mohan Alva, Archana, Master Sajan, Rohidas Kadri, Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjur, Ermal Harish Shetty, M K Mutt, Santhosh Shetty, Balakrishna Mumbai, Prakash Padubidri, Ramesh Rai Kukkuvalli, Balakrishna and Purushotam.
The film will be shot in various locales of coastal districts such as Beltangady, Sullia and Brahmavar among others. The team already have found ancient houses built 400 years ago in order to bring about reality feel to the movie, Navneeth Shetty informed.
Jagannath Shetty Bala, Rajesh Suvarna Kudla and Manikanth Kadri among others were present at the press meet.
