Karkala, Sep 25: After a lady filed a complaint in the town police station here, alleging that a person who had coaxed her and raped her when she was small, was now harassing her on a continuous basis for the last two years. She said she had now been assaulted by him. Based on this complaint, the police arrested Niyaz, a native of Shivamogga.

Niyaz, who is married, lives at Banglegudde, Karkala. He had developed closeness with the girl. He also had called her often and cajoled her into falling in love with him. On May 30, 2020, he had invited her to his home where he had raped her. Thereafter, he threatened her and forced her to get raped by him. On September 23, he had taken her to near the saw mill at Pattonmjikatte where he reportedly assaulted her and escaped after snatching away her mobile phone.

On the basis of the complaint filed in the town police station here, a case was registered. The accused stands remanded to judicial custody.
