Puttur, Sep 23: As a special case, the state government has sanctioned compensation of two lac rupees each in respect of seven persons who died in an accident nine months back near Panathur on Kerala border. A bus carrying a marriage party had met with an accident and seven persons were killed in the accident.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, responding to the plea made by district in-charge minister S Angara and MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, released Rs 14 lac for the purpose.
The accident happened on January 3 this year. Rajesh (38) from Balnadu Chanila Palechchar, his son, Adarsh (14), Sumathi (26), daughter of Narayana from Kunjoor Panja Devasya, Shreyas (13) from Panaje Arlapadavu Ardhamoole, Ravichandra (40) from Kukkundoor, Sesamma alias Jayalaxmi, wife of Vasanth Naik from Kalenjila near Ajjilkallu and bus conductor Shashidhar from Narikombu, Bantwal, had died in this accident.
The ill-fated bus was not covered by insurance. None of those who died were covered by life insurance either. All of them belonged to poor families and were agricultural labourers. Considering these things, Angara and Matandoor had urged the chief minister to consider this as a special case and sanction the compensation.
