Kadaba, Sep 20: Mariamma from Noojibalthila village in the taluk, who was earlier working as an auxiliary nurse midwife of Nandagudi primary health centre in Hoskote taluk, has bagged the national 'Florence Nightingale' award.
Because of the Covid19-related issues, she was bestowed this honour for the year 2020 by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, at a programme held through the video conferencing facility on September 15. Currently Mariamma is serving at the Koila primary health centre here.
Mariamma was chosen for this award, considering the effort she put towards ensuring that the national health services reach the people of Hoskote taluyk. A total of 51 people from all over India were chosen for this coveted award.
Mariamma happens to be the daughter of Chacko and Annamma couple from Noojibalthila village. She joined the health and family welfare department in1990. After serving at Beltangady or ten years, she had been transferred to Nandagudi primary health centre.
Mariamma had won the 'Best Health Assistant' award in 2007 and the 'Best sub centre award in 2011 because of her dedicated hard work.
