Kasargod, Sep 19: The police here on Sunday September 19 arrested a male teacher in connection with the alleged suicide of an eighth standard female student.
The arrested man has been identified as A Usman (25), a teacher at a private school in Melparamba here. He is a resident of Adoor.
On September 8, a girl studying in the same school in 8th standard was found hanging at her residence.
Following her death, a case was filed against Usman under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and on charges of abetment to suicide.
Usman had gone absconding since then. A special police team was formed, which zeroed-in on the location of his mobile phone and traced him to Mumbai, where he was arrested.
The police said that the girl was agonised after mobile phone messages pertaining to her got leaked on social media and went viral.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Usman used to send audio messages to the victim on social media.
The girl was mentally disturbed as he allegedly exploited her, and she ultimately ended her life when she could no longer cope, police sources said. Usman was allegedly mentally harassing her, investigation has revealed.
The police confiscated the girl's mobile phone and extracted all relevant information.
Melparamba police said that Usman would be produced in court and his custody would be sought for further interrogation.
