Mangaluru, Sep 16: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, disclosed that the National Highways Authority of India has given its nod for the construction of a new flyover at the KPT Junction in the city. There were persistent demands for the construction of a flyover here as traffic blocks often occurred as the airport road passes through this junction.
Nalin said that the flyover will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 34.6 crore and tender for the flyover will be floated soon. He expressed happiness at the fact that a long-pending demand for a flyover at the junction has been met with the current approval given for the project by union minister for highways, Nitin Gadkari.
Because of high density of vehicular traffic and vehicles moving in different directions at the junction, the road users often faced problems here. There had been demand from the people for an alternative arrangement to streamline the traffic movement as highway users too faced trouble here. With the flyover proposed now, it is hoped that the traffic chaos will be eased at this point.
