Mangaluru, Sep 11: “The name of the international airport in the city was renamed as Adani Mangaluru airport after it was handed over to Adani Group for handling the operations. Locals objected to this name change and an appeal in this regard was submitted to the officials of the airport. Due to this appeal and protest, the name of the airport has been now changed back to Mangaluru International Airport,” said social activist Dilraj Alva at a press conference in the city on Saturday September 11.
Speaking on the matter further, Alva said, “Adani Group had changed the name board of the airport after it took over the handling of operations of the same. However, it was known through RTI that there was no scope for changing the name of the airport in the agreement that took place between Mangaluru International Airport and Adani Group.
“Later, due to the legal fight that was undertaken, Adani Group was forced to drop the name Adani from the name board and a new name board as before was installed from Friday September 10. This victory was gained due to our legal battle,” said Alva.
