Mumbai, Sep 9: “My mother tongue is Tamil. I came to Mumbai and learnt various languages. My enthusiasm increased as I studied Kannada in this university. I am glad to say that I was a student here,” said Mumbai university Physics professor Dr Radha Ayyar. She was speaking during the teacher’s day anniversary held by Mumbai University, Kannada department.

Head of the Kannada department, Dr G N Upadhya said that the Kannada learning course in the university is becoming popular and doctors, engineers, technicians and employees in various other sectors are coming forward to learn Kannada online.

Chief Guest, senior journalist Srinivas Jakatte said that the Kannada department is doing creative work. “It has succeeded in attracting ordinary people. The all-round progress of Kannada is happening here. It has earned the love of Mumbai Kannadigas,” he opined.

Co professor Dr Poornima S Shetty, co researcher Dr Uma Ramarao, Surekha H Devadiga, Dinaker Nandi Chandan, Nalina Prasad, Geetha Manjunath, Shashikala Hegde, Prathibha Rao and others were present.

Dr Radha Ayyar was felicitated with a medal and a degree certificate on behalf of the Kannada department.
