Udupi, Aug 27: The programme of allowing workers from unorganized sectors who are deprived of various central and state government schemes because of the lack of information, the programme of registration under 'E-Shram' was launched all over the country from Thursday August 26. It can prove to be a boon for the unorganized sector.
By getting the labourers registered in the 'E-Shram' website the union ministry of labour and employment plans to create a national database of unorganized workers. Those who register their names in this website are issued identity cards having unique identity numbers, the officials say. By registering themselves, the unorganized labourers can benefit from social security schemes. They can avail of Pradhan Mantri insurance scheme. The annual premium of Rs 12 has been waived for a year.
To be eligible for registration, the unorganized workers should have been working in the unorganized labour sectors mentioned by the central government. They should belong to the 16 to 59 age group, should not be income tax payers and should not have availed the benefit of provident fund and employees’ state insurance.
No fee is payable for the registration. They can go to the nearby common service centre with an Aadhar card, bank passbook and mobile phones and get themselves registered. They then get an A4 size registration letter. The workers who are in the organized sector cannot register themselves under this scheme.
Dakshina Kannada district has over 15,000 unorganized workers who can avail of the benefits by getting themselves registered in the national database. The district has over 160 service centres where the labourers can get themselves registered, said district labour officer Kumar. Small and marginal farmers, agricultural labourers, fishermen, distributors, people involved with animal husbandry, beedi rollers, construction workers, cobblers, weavers, carpenters, salt makers, brick kiln and stone workers, quarry workers, sawmill workers, domestic servants, barbers, fruits and vegetable vendors, newspaper sellers, rickshaw pullers, auto drivers etc are eligible to be considered as unorganised labourers.
