Bantwal, Aug 26: D M Kulal (54), former member of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, senior journalist, organizer and social activist passed away after prolonged illness at his residence at Daipala on Thursday afternoon. He has left behind his mother, wife, a daughter, a son, friends and relatives.
He had worked as a journalist in Mungaru, Mangalore Mitra and Netravati Varthe newspapers before beginning to write articles in various newspapers. He has written four books including the autobiography of his relative veteran freedom fighter late Dr Ammembal Balappa. He was an excellent orator.
He had recently indulged actively in the recent Global Tulu Literary conference at Ujire. He was felicitated by Dr Heggade and received several felicitations. He was honoured with ‘Chavadi Puraskara’ by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at his residence recently.
He had worked as the secretary of Bantwal Taluk Patrakartara Sangha. He was an active office bearer at Bantwal taluk Kulala Samaja Sudharaka Sangha. He was an active committee member in Manila Sridhama seva samithi. He was the founder of Kulala Math Kumbhodhari Devi trust. He was also identified in the Congress party for some time.
MLA Rajesh Naik Ulipadi, former minister Ramanath Rai, Bantwal block Congress president Baby Kunder, Tulu Koota president Sudarshan Jain, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy former president A C Bhandary, Farangipete Sevanjali Prathistana trustee K K Poonja, Bantwal taluk Kulala Samaja Sudharaka Sangha and Bantwal taluk patrakartara sangha have condoled his demise.
