Bengaluru, Aug 22: Though schools are set to reopen in the state from Monday, August 23, the state government has given instructions that in the three districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu they will remain closed until further notice as the positivity rate of coronavirus is more in these districts.
The education department said that it is not going to allow schools to reopen from Monday in five districts where the positivity rate was more than 2%. However, as the districts of Hassan and Chikkamagalur reported less than 2% positivity rate, the schools in these districts are opening from Monday.

As per the weekly statistics released by corona war room only three districts of Dakshina Kannada (3.2%), Udupi (2.8%) and Kodagu (2.3%) have more than 2% positivity rate.
On Saturday, August 21, as many as 1,350 new cases were reported and 18 people died in the state. Compared to Friday, the tests were less by 15,000. New cases also reduced by 103. Positivity rate is 0.8% and the death rate is 1.3% across the state.
On Saturday, Dakshina Kannada reported the highest number of cases in the state with 320 infections, while Udupi, Mysuru and Hassan reported 177, 102 and 101 new cases respectively. Four people died in Dakshina Kannada, which is the highest in Karnataka for the day.
