Raichur, Aug 19: Of late, we keep coming across shifting of the entire trees right from their roots. But shifting of houses entirely is a new concept. A resident of Jawahar Nagar in the city, Satyanarayan Mujumdar, had planned to elevate his house four feet higher from its current position.
Mujumdar had built the house for his residence in 1990-91. As the house is located next to the road, the road has gained height over the years as a result of which during every rainy season, water from the drains and road enter his courtyard and spreads stink. Frustrated, he has planned to elevate his house.
Razing the current house and building it again needs about Rs 30 to 40 lac. After reading a mobile message he came to know that there is a possibility of lifting houses from their current positions. He saw that a house in Hanchinala camp in Sindhanur taluk of the district has been lifted four feet from the current position. He contacted Santosh from Bihar, who undertakes such projects. By installing jacks around the house, the house has been lifted four feet above. Other repair works are on now. Hundreds of people come here every day to see this house. This happens to be an easy and cheap solution to the problem of dirty water entering houses that are located at a lower level.
