Mangaluru, Aug 14: The ambitious drinking water project of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), which will supply drinking water to the residents of the city 24x7, is progressing at full pace. Huge cement pipes required for this project are supplied from Tamil Nadu.

Huge storage tanks will be built at 20 spots of the city. New pipes are being laid in all wards. A 20 MLD capacity water treatment plant and backwash treatment plant is being constructed at Ramalkatte near Thumbe vented dam.

The bulk storage tanks will be built near Nandigudda Maidan. Udayanagara, Kodipadi, Nehru Maidan, Amritanagara at Tiruvailu, Shaktinagar, Maryhill, Krishnapura, Morgansgate, Minakaliya in Panambur, Valencia Cemetery, Kunjathbail, Santhosh Nagar, NITK, Nekkilagudda, Holyhill, J M Road, Kana, M V Shetty college at Kavoor and Kodikal.

At present, a huge amount of water is leaking while supplying water from the dam to the overhead tank. The leakage could not be traced till now. So 181 bulk flow meters will be fixed from Tumbay jackwell to overhead tanks.

    They promised 24 hours water ....but, even after installation of jalasiri pipes, in rainy season also, some selective areas get only hours water on every alternative days....Whereas other areas get normal water everyday......based on politics some say. Its given to understand areas like where congress got elected, water is released on every alternative days for four hours....
