Mangaluru, Aug 14: A mobile canteen that operates near the bus stand of Kateel makes use of the solar system for all its power needs.
Arun Kumar Malligeangadi, former member of Kateel Panchayat has converted 407 pick up as canteen. A solar panel is fixed on the roof. Refrigerator, mixture grinder, oven, exhaust fan and other equipment of the canteen are run by solar power.
Eatables are also prepared using solar power. A tank of 500 litre capacity is installed on the top of the vehicle for water. The used water goes to a tank of 300 litre which is fixed at the bottom of the bus.
Chassis of the vehicle is converted into a room where consumers can sit and eat. There is a table and fan also. The mobile canteen is built at a cost of Rs 9.25 lac. Many film producers have taken this mobile canteen for outdoor shooting in rural areas and forests.
Arun Kumar Kateel, owner of the canteen says, “This mobile canteen is my brainchild, which began functioning two years ago. In the coming days, I will also fix a television set. I have decided to give one percent income from this canteen to Indian Army.”
