Siddaramaiah to launch Ahinda movement to prove leadership credentials

Bengaluru, Aug 14 (IANS): Congress leader Siddaramaiah is all set to launch the 'Ahinda' (minorities, backwards and Dalits) movement across Karnataka ahead of local rural body elections, party sources said on Friday.

Congress sources said that Siddaramaiah will launch the movement to emerge as the leader of oppressed classes ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

Siddaramaiah, who met former ministers H.C. Mahadevappa and C.M. Ibrahim, who were in the forefront of the Ahinda movement earlier, on Friday demanded that the caste census of the state must be made public.

The socio-economic and education survey, known as the caste census, and begun in 2015, had run into controversy after some of the purported findings, suggesting Muslims were at second position in terms of population in Karnataka after lower classes, got leaked. Later, the Census Committee denied this.

In spite of the state government spending Rs 168 crore on the exercise, the report has never been made public or presented in the Assembly till date.

"The report was incomplete when I was in power. My successor H.D. Kumarasamy could have released it. B.S. Yediyurappa also did not bother to release it. I am for the release of the census report. If I have not released the census report, what is preventing the present government from presenting the census report in the Assembly," Siddaramaiah asked.

"The census includes information of all categories of people. The communities need to know where they stand. The office bearers of the Most Backward Castes Awareness Forum have met me. I have advised them to move the court," he added.

Party insiders claim that the caste census will put Scheduled Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes' population to be higher than dominant Lingayat and Vokkaliga castes in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah, already established as a leader of backward classes, wants to garner the support of these communities by launching the 'Ahinda' movement.

This is the plan for the 2023 Assembly elections of Siddaramaiah who is now being challenged by state party President D.K. Shivakumar. Siddaramaiah wants to emerge as the leader of masses to prove a point to the Congress high command to make him the Chief Ministerial candidate in 2023.

He also should agitate for release of wakf committee report which is gathering dust for ages. The report reportedly highlights swindling of wakf property running into crores of Rupees by serving politicians in high places. The Congress party while in power refused to table the report in the assembly to protect its leaders . Strangely the BJP too was playing tango with Congress in suppressing the report though it was commissioned by them.

Sidram Khan was CM for 5 long years. But AHINDA people are not yet prospered. Hence either of the following is proved without doubt (a) Sidram Khan is making AHIDNA drama for votes only (b) Only those creamy layered in AHINDA are getting benefit at the cost of remaining 99%.

I think it is right time for Congress highcommand to to give some responsibility at national level to Sidhu so that he will be out of Karnataka. Or suspend him from the party. He will never let Congress grow in progressive Karnataka. They can appoint as a supervisor in some north Indian belt where cast and religion plays a handsome role in elections.

Siddu is fast turning to be a damp squib in CONgress. He's first CM to loose sitting seat of Chamundeshwari by more than 50000 votes, He also reduced party from 123 MLA seats to 64 and made Lok Sabha members from party from 9 to 1. Now 70 years old, his arrogance will spell death knell. Better he hand over party to DKS or other leaders and retire rather than propagating AHINDA again.

j.anata, Mangaluru / Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah was not the sitting MLA of Chamundeshwari; he was sitting MLA of Varuna when he lost the election in Chamundeshwari. And he was not the first CM to lose the election. In 1983, CM Gundoo Rao lost the seat against Jeevijaya & in 1999, CM J.H. Patel lost the seat against independent Rajanna. In 1994 under CM Veerappa Moily reduced party seats from 179 to 35 seats!!!!

Siddu had won from both Varuna and Chamundeshwari earlier. His last win was from Chamundeshwari, this he lost by huge margin. He had to run away to minority seat to win.

I don't even have a slightest doubt that he is going to be our next chief minister for sure with DK Shivakumar as his deputy. In Karnataka after the removal of Yeddi BJP is in self destruction mode . Now it is proved beyond doubt that only Congress can give a stable government . Chances are that Congress will get more than 150 seats in the next election

Difference within party. Let them unite first. Is it D.K.Shivkumar participate in Ahinda movement..!!. Congress day by day sinking due to not having propper leadership. Better they abolish party and relaunch with new entrants..only way left. BJP is not having strong opposition as yet. Even people lost hope on congress due to internal rivalry.
