London, Aug 12 (IANS): Rain stopped play in the first session on the first day of the second Test between England and India at Lord's here on Thursday even as the visiting opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and K.L. Rahul moved the score to 46/0.
With 40 minutes left for lunch, the covers were brought on to the pitch and square following a drizzle.
Before the interruption, India had played 18.4 overs. Rohit Sharma, unbeaten at 35, was seen walking back to the pavilion with his bat under his shirt. He gave his opening partner KL Rahul, unbeaten at 10, a pat on the arm.
Earlier, rain had delayed the toss and start of the match by 20 minutes.
Sharma played some exquisite shots and hit Sam Curran for four fours in one over.
England had won the toss and elected to bowl. India made one change to the side that played the first Test.
They brought in pacer Ishant Sharma to replace injured pace bowler Shardul Thakur.
